Adrián Hevia: How LABASAD’s Online Master’s in Motion Graphics transformed his passion into a professional future

Adrián Hevia shares his inspiring experience at LABASAD and how the Master’s programme propelled his professional development.

From a young age, Adrián Hevia felt a special attraction to visual storytelling. “I remember being fascinated by advertising. I loved watching TV commercials. At first, I suppose it was because of what was being advertised, but over time, I became more interested in how things were told,” Adrián reflects. This initial curiosity, combined with his love for film and audiovisuals, marked the beginning of his journey into the world of design and animation.

Now, as a graduate of LABASAD’s Online Master’s in Motion Graphics in Spanish, Adrián shares his experience in this programme, which not only shaped him as a professional but also enhanced his creative vision.

As a teenager, Adrián explored editing tools on his own, creating short films with his friends. “Our ideas always went beyond our abilities, so we taught ourselves,” he says. However, there came a moment when he realised he needed more: “This self-taught approach is helpful, but I decided I needed that extra something that only formal education could provide.”

It was then that LABASAD’s Master’s programme appeared as the ideal choice. Adrián sought a programme that went beyond teaching technique or focusing on a single software. “I was interested in understanding the entire creative process, from pre-production to the final result, and delving into the concepts and mechanics of animation beyond the tool being used,” he explains.

The Master’s combined live classes with access to recordings, a flexibility Adrián took full advantage of to balance his studies with his work:

“I attended live classes whenever possible, as resolving doubts in real-time is incredibly helpful for consolidating knowledge, but knowing that the sessions were recorded provided peace of mind”

One of the modules that left a significant impression on him was Stop Motion, taught by Professor Joaquín Urbina. “It was one of the subjects that intimidated me the most, but the passion conveyed by the teacher completely captivated me. It’s one of the projects I’m most proud of,” he admits.

Beyond technical skills, the programme allowed Adrián to explore different styles and approaches, from cel animation to typographic animation and live action, opening doors to the world of 3D:

“The Master’s perfectly fulfilled what I was looking for: a broad and comprehensive education”

After completing the Master’s, Adrián has noticed significant improvements in his creative process:

“I feel more agile and technically efficient, but also better prepared for the pre-production stages. I can now take on more ambitious projects that I wouldn’t have dared to start before”

Looking ahead, Adrián is clear about the impact he expects from this training: “I believe it can be the foundation for continuing to develop my skills and starting to work on projects focused on animation and motion graphics.” He is also motivated by the challenges posed by the creative industry, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence: “I think returning to more human and artisanal methods could make a difference. Bringing humanity to projects will be the most beautiful part of the future of motion graphics.”

For those considering enrolling in the Master’s, Adrián offers practical and valuable advice: “They should know that a Master’s requires a lot of work and dedication, but the important thing is to understand that it doesn’t provide solutions, but tools. If they make good use of them, they’ll get the most out of it.”

Today, Adrián Hevia not only feels better prepared professionally but also closer to fulfilling personal dreams, such as collaborating on audiovisual projects with his favourite team, Racing de Santander. His story is an inspiring testament to how passion and the right training can transform a creative career and a clear example of the positive impact of LABASAD’s Online Master’s in Motion Graphics.
