Mat Voyce’s masterclass promises to inspire and boost your creativity in motion typography

Against this backdrop, LABASAD had the honour of hosting Mat Voyce, a designer and animator specialising in 2D kinetic typography, for a unique masterclass entitled “Type in Motion”. This event, held on 14 January, offered an in-depth look into Voyce’s career and his innovative approach to motion typography.

With over a decade of experience in design and animation, Mat Voyce is a true pioneer in the field of kinetic typography. His style, characterised by a blend of humour and personality, has revolutionised how we understand and utilise moving letters. Throughout his career, he has worked with international brands and created visual content for an impressive range of projects, from GIFs and stickers to music videos and visual identities.

During the masterclass, Mat shared his fascinating journey with attendees, from his early days in animation to becoming a globally recognised leader in his field. In his presentation, he analysed several of his most iconic projects, demonstrating how typography—often seen as a static discipline—can be transformed into a vibrant, expressive, and dynamic art form.

In addition to his remarkable professional career, Mat combines his expertise with his role as a lecturer in LABASAD’s Online Master in Motion Graphics programme. “You have to share your work and make sure it’s seen. If you’re just starting, it will take time. Create and share it. Don’t be overly inspired by those who are already established; focus on bringing a fresh perspective. Otherwise, your work will simply blend in with the rest,” was one of the most valuable pieces of advice Mat shared with the attendees. He also emphasised the importance of visibility on platforms: sharing work on social media platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram and using hashtags to amplify reach.
