Vanesa García, student at LABASAD, nominated in Shortlist Pentawards and awarded by ARCAPACK

Congratulations to our student Vanesa García for being nominated in the Shortlist Pentawards 2023 and for her three awards in ARCAPACK for the best packaging designed by a student.

Vanesa García, student at LABASAD, was nominated for the Shortlist Pentawards 2023 awards for her project Sunriset. This is a personal project based on a non-alcoholic gin brand that she did in collaboration with OI Expressions, a company that develops innovative and distinctive glass packaging in the glass printing sector.

The Shortlist Pentawards is an annual awards program committed to recognising design excellence, providing a source of inspiration and connecting the global packaging community. It is judged by an international jury of the highest calibre professionals and experts in packaging design and marketing who represent the global packaging spectrum.

Vanesa García has studied the Máster Online en Diseño Estratégico de Packaging at LABASAD. She is a graphic designer, art director and photographer from Murcia and, with more than 11 years of experience, has worked in a wide variety of disciplines with national and international clients. She has had the opportunity to work in different areas within the projects, from the initial concept to the creation of brands, packaging, art direction, editorial, communication and more.

In Vanesa’s Sunriset project, she aimed to create a non-alcoholic gin brand that focuses on wellness. Sunriset comes from the mixture of sunrise and sunset, and the idea is to enjoy the party without paying for it the next day. The design is inspired by this duality, night and day, sunset and sunrise, light and shadow. Transparency has a strong presence, alluding to the absence of bodily discomfort inherent to a hangover.

This is the first time I have entered an award of this magnitude, I wanted to prove myself and the quality of my work. The Master has taught me a lot, a great deal; but it has also given me an enthusiasm that I had lost somewhat. It has been a boost to my professional career, the Master has made me discover my true passion, it has shown me that I can stand out and it has made me fall in love with this complex discipline”a.

It is a product focused on people who want to have fun, take care of themselves and who are looking for a different drink with a sarcastic touch. It is aimed at a consumer who is not satisfied with anything, who is saturated with stimuli and opts for a clear and minimalist product. The packaging offers clean, textured graphics thanks to innovative printing techniques.

“The truth is that the LABASAD Master Online en Diseño Estratégico Packaging has pleasantly surprised me. In my case I did not expect it to be so in-depth, with such highly trained professionals and what I least expected, is the strong sense of community. The level of support has been incredible. However, combining a master’s degree like this with work has not been easy, it requires a lot of effort and discipline. That said, in my case, I have faced the Master with motivation and commitment, and I have achieved great results.

On the other hand, to close an excellent year of awards for Vanesa, three of her projects carried out during the Online Master were winners in ARCAPACK as the best packaging designed by a student.

ZETA was a project carried out during the Online Master, for the subject Packaging for Premium & Gourmet.

We find ourselves in a context in which young society is driven by “likes”, appearances, the acceptance of others, superficiality and standards. This triggers broken hearts, complexes, insecurities, lack of self-esteem, dependence, acceptance problems and in short: mental health problems.

Thus ZETA was born, a premium, CBD-based skincare brand. A brand for Gen Z, with a social purpose, outspoken and disruptive that proposes that you love yourself just as you are.

This project is developed with respect for human beings and the planet. It is a contemporary, ecological and natural wine, that is to say, it only contains grapes, nothing else. With this project, Vanesa wanted to bring the consumer closer to the natural and healthy aspects of wine without giving up its natural flavour. That is why Sarmiento is made without filtering, without refining, without stabilising and without adding any chemicals. It is a journey to get closer to the land and the fruit itself.
